iMove Program
iMove will help you better understand your relationship with exercise and explore ways to manage challenging emotions and thoughts.
The iMove method, developed by Amy Gardner, provides education, mindfulness, sensory integration, embodiment and body-based activities, values work, self-reflection, and community and connection to build a roadmap and support you to create an embodied relationship with movement and exercise that will support your hopes and dreams for a life you want to be living.
The experiential activities throughout this program help activate a relaxation response, providing alternative strategies to exercise for calming the nervous system. The group provides an opportunity to connect with others who are also working on their relationship with exercise and their bodies. Our nervous systems communicate non-verbally with the people around us. As those around us relax, it can help us relax and vice versa. We call this coregulation and it provides a safe place for connection and exploring our inner worlds. As you build safety and begin to be able to lean on your relationships with others for support, the need to run away from uncomfortable experiences though excessive and compulsive movement reduces. Time and consistency are key which is why this program is run over many weeks. It takes time to develop a difficult relationship with exercise and our bodies and it will take time to heal that.
